The Medical Market Committee (MMC) is pleased to report the successful collaboration between Wyoming Medical Center and Community Health Centers of Central Wyoming on the creation of a pharmacy residency program. Wyoming Medical Center has determined that such a program would enhance the healthcare in our community and will proceed with implementation. At the MMC’s June meeting, Lanae Fox, Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at UW and David Pestotnik, Director of Pharmacy at Wyoming Medical Center presented the concept.
The presentation was a good fit on initial growth topics from the MMC’s May 2017 meeting. The Pharmacy Residency program can serve as a feeder for future growth initiatives. Professor Fox highlighted the potential for increased positive patient outcomes, a collaboration between clinical pharmacists and physicians and growth in specialized facilities. This project exploration was a year-long discussion between Fox and Pestotnik on its potential. When they presented in June 2017 there was increased interested between Wyoming Medical Center and Community Health and both entities entered into a discussion on how they could collaborate to ensure this program could meet its end of July 2017 application deadline.
The application has been submitted to the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists. Progress will be shared in future CAEDA/Forward Casper Newsletters.
